At the meeting of December 3, 2018, the City Council asked staff for information regarding possible regulations on wine tasting facilities in the City including restrictions for the Plaza Retail Overlay District (PROD). The staff report presented to the City Council included comments from the Planning Commission, several members of the community which were received at community outreach meetings, and the Sonoma Valley Vintners Alliance. The report also included survey data from other jurisdictions and recommendations from staff.
After deliberation, the City Council directed staff to return with additional information regarding a potential licensing strategy to regulate new and existing wine tasting facilities in City limits, whether they are located in the PROD or not, as opposed to regulating wine tasting facilities through a Use Permit or other land use entitlement process. Staff will return to the City Council with the requested information at a Council meeting in January 2019.
