We wanted to inform you about our current street sweeping operations and the temporary use of an electric street sweeper in Sonoma.
Our usual diesel-powered street sweeper encountered a mechanical issue just over a week ago and is awaiting a part needed for repair. In the meantime, we’re taking the opportunity to test a fully electric street sweeper, thanks to a loaned unit that will allow us to evaluate the performance of this new technology.
As of today, the City’s street sweeping schedule has resumed with no expected interruptions.
Keeping streets clean is a shared effort that benefits our community and local environment. One of our Street Department’s essential functions is ensuring that stormwater flowing into our creeks and bays remains clean. The most visible part of this effort is our street sweeper which helps prevent debris from clogging or passing through our storm drain system.
Here’s how you can help:
- Minimize debris on streets and gutters by raking leaves and placing them in your yard waste container.
- Avoid sweeping or blowing debris into the street or gutter, as this can lead to clogging and pollute local waterways.
As always, your feedback and questions are welcome! Please feel free to contact our Public Works Department via email or call (707) 938-3332 with any comments or concerns. Thank you for your patience.
