Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program-Common Spills and Illicit Discharges
The City of Sonoma’s storm drain system is designed to collect and transport excess water from lands in the City to nearby creeks during storms. It is not designed to treat or remove any pollutants from the water that flows through it.
By law, spills or other discharges of any non-stormwater substance are prohibited, with few exceptions.
Some of the most common spills and discharges that are prohibited from entering the storm drain system include:
- Sewage
- Pesticides
- Pet Waste
- Trash
- Sediment
Some of the most common exemptions to the non-stormwater discharge prohibitions include:
- Uncontaminated Groundwater Discharges
- Discharges from Non-Commercial Vehicle Washing
- Dechlorinated and Uncontaminated Pool Dewatering
