The Role of Advisory Commissions

Public involvement is crucial to the City’s decision-making process, and appointed advisory bodies like the CAC are a valued part of local government. There are specific areas of decision-making that benefit from the input of qualified residents, and advisory bodies help the City Council make the most informed decisions possible.

The Sonoma Municipal Code provides for the establishment of advisory bodies, including commissions and committees, to provide ongoing citizen input on policies and issues affecting the Sonoma community.

For more details on the role of advisory commissions, see the Commission Administrative Policy, which outlines Council policies and structures that encourage meaningful community involvement in decision-making.
