Are you a teen with a passion for making a difference in your community? Here’s your chance to step up and make your voice heard! The City of Sonoma is excited to announce that applications are now open for Youth Commissioner positions on several key City commissions and committees.

Serving as a Youth Commissioner is a unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience in local government, contribute your ideas, and help shape the future of our city. Whether you’re interested in the arts, planning, or public safety, there’s a spot for you!

Available Positions:

  • Cultural & Fine Arts Commission (CFAC)
    Help cultivate a vibrant arts scene in Sonoma! The CFAC works to establish a balanced arts and cultural program, honors the “Treasure Artist of the Year,” and sponsors the “Student Creative Arts Awards,” offering cash awards to talented young artists.
  • Design Review & Historic Preservation Commission (DRHPC)
    Passionate about architecture and design? Join the DRHPC to help protect Sonoma’s unique architectural heritage and promote excellence in town design.
  • Parks, Recreation & Open Space Commission (PROS)
    Love the outdoors? Get involved with the PROS to advise on the preservation and enhancement of Sonoma’s parks, recreational facilities, and open spaces.
  • Planning Commission
    Interested in city planning and development? The Planning Commission plays a crucial role in shaping Sonoma’s growth, from developing the General Plan to reviewing environmental impact reports.
  • Traffic Safety Committee
    Concerned about traffic and safety in our city? The Traffic Safety Committee reviews and suggests solutions to traffic-related issues, ensuring our streets are safe for everyone.

Who Can Apply?
Youth members must be between 14 and 18 years old at the time of appointment and must live within the City of Sonoma or the greater Sonoma Valley. The term is two years, starting on October 1, 2024.

How to Apply
If you’re interested in applying or if you’re a current member looking to be reappointed, we encourage you to submit an application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024. Applications can be submitted electronically through the City’s Civic Web Portal at https://sonomacity.civicweb.net. Just click on the “Commission and Committees” tile, and you’re on your way!
