The City’s Water Utility Division will be conducting routine water main flushing over the next 4-6 weeks, beginning on Friday, January 19, 2024. This essential process is part of our commitment to maintaining the highest water quality possible for the City of Sonoma community.
What is Water Main Flushing? Water main flushing involves forcing water through the city’s water distribution piping system at a high velocity, effectively cleaning the pipes. This program, required by water quality regulations, helps us ensure that the water delivered to your homes and businesses meets the highest quality standards.
When Does Flushing Occur? To minimize inconvenience, the flushing is scheduled between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Water service will not be interrupted during this process.
How Does Flushing Impact You? While your water service remains uninterrupted, you may notice a temporary increase in water flow down gutters during the flushing process. In some cases, solid particles may be dislodged, causing your water to appear slightly discolored for a short period. If this happens, we recommend running your taps for a couple of minutes until the water runs clear. Start with your front yard hose faucet to clear the line to your house.
Notice for Affected Residences: If your residence will be directly impacted, you will receive a notice on your door before the flushing in your area. Please be aware of these notifications to stay informed.
City’s Commitment: Our goal is to provide water that consistently meets all standards, including aesthetic ones. Any discoloration effects are temporary, and we assure you that the water quality will improve as a result of this flushing program. If your water does not clear quickly, please contact Public Works at 707-933-2231 (6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday).
