Is my account information secure?

Yes. The AMI system only transmits the water meter readings, the meter identification number and diagnostic information to verify the equipment is operating correctly. Personal customer information is not transmitted. For additional security, the data is encrypted and transmitted over a secure cellular network.

How does AMI work?

Your new water meter will include a cellular transmitter that will automatically send water usage data from your meter to the City’s billing system. Is AMI technology a wise investment?

Yes. The City evaluated AMI and found that the return on investment will save money for the City Water Utility over time, which in turn helps minimize water rates. AMI also improves customer service, and helps customers better understand their water use and costs so that they can take steps to improve water conservation efforts.

What are the benefits of AMI?

Well-behaved pets may be permitted at the discretion of the Warming Center Manager, and service animals are allowed. Additional pet restrictions or requirements will be provided to registrants at the time of registration. What services are provided at the Extreme Weather Warming Center?

The center offers a place to warm up, charge electronic devices, cots for sleeping, light snacks, and beverages. Cooking facilities are not available. Individuals must be listed on the “by-name list” system used by homeless providers in Sonoma Valley and the City of Sonoma.

How is the Warming Center staffed?

City staff and contract personnel, assigned by the City Manager, coordinate and manage the Warming Center operations. A Warming Center Manager is appointed to oversee the establishment and management of the center. Staffing may be required at any time, including weekends and holidays.

Who decides to open the Extreme Weather Warming Center?

The City Manager (or designee) is responsible for determining the need to open the center, considering input from relevant agencies such as the County of Sonoma Department of Health Services, Department of Emergency Management, Sonoma Valley Fire District, and Sonoma Police Department.
