Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-time hours (varies week to week).
  • $21.01 – $25.54 per hour (no benefits).
  • Internship duration: 12 weeks (May – August 2025).

About the Position

As a Public Works Intern, you’ll play a key role in a meaningful project, utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) software and smart tablet technology to document and organize historical burial records at the City’s cemeteries. This role offers a great opportunity to develop technical, research, and administrative skills while working outdoors in a historic setting. Read the full job description for more information.

What You’ll Do:

  • Use GIS software and a smart tablet to locate and record grave markers.
  • Scan, organize, and enter metadata for burial records.
  • Read and interpret plot maps and charts.
  • Work outdoors in different weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Interact respectfully and tactfully with cemetery visitors and relatives.
  • Ensure careful handling of historical grave markers.
  • Assist with various Public Works projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited college.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while taking direction from supervisors.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software is a plus but not required.
