About the Position
As a Public Works Intern, you’ll play a key role in a meaningful project, utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) software and smart tablet technology to document and organize historical burial records at the City’s cemeteries. This role offers a great opportunity to develop technical, research, and administrative skills while working outdoors in a historic setting. Read the full job description for more information.
What You’ll Do:
- Use GIS software and a smart tablet to locate and record grave markers.
- Scan, organize, and enter metadata for burial records.
- Read and interpret plot maps and charts.
- Work outdoors in different weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
- Interact respectfully and tactfully with cemetery visitors and relatives.
- Ensure careful handling of historical grave markers.
- Assist with various Public Works projects as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited college.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while taking direction from supervisors.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic knowledge of GIS software is a plus but not required.
