The City of Sonoma is looking for a highly qualified, dynamic, and enthusiastic individual to join the Community Development Department as a Permit Technician I/II in the Building Division .

In this role, you will:

  • Perform a variety of technical planning and building support duties.
  • Review and process permits and entitlements for new construction, building modifications, and development projects.
  • Serve as the first point of contact to assist the public with information and guidance.
  • Calculate and collect permit and development fees.
  • Route plans for internal and external review.
  • Provide administrative support for meetings, including preparing agendas and minutes, scheduling, handling logistics, managing audio-visual presentations, and hosting electronic meetings.
  • Prepare and issue applications for new water connections and new water customers.

Additionally, this position supports general reception activities at City Hall and provides backup coverage for the Administrative Assistant and Development Services Supervisor at the front counter. Other related duties may be assigned.

A typical candidate will possess:

Strong computer literacy and skills, the ideal candidate would have experience with electronic permitting and review systems.

Permit Technician I

  • Two years of experience performing increasingly responsible office support duties involving heavy public contact, and equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Permit Technician II

  • In addition to the above, two years of planning and/or building permit review experience equivalent to that of a Permit Technician I in the City of Sonoma.

The annual salary range for the incoming Permit Technician I position is $61,017.19 – $74,166.77 and for the Permit Technician II is $67,796.30 – $82,406.82 DOE.
