Veterans Day Ceremonies
Sonoma Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1943, American Legion Post 489 and AMVETRS Post 55 will be observing Veterans Day this year on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Memorial Building. Free refreshments to all veterans, their families and guests at 10:00 AM with the ceremony to follow at 11:00 AM. Please note that City Hall will be closed in honor of Veterans Day.
The veterans groups are honored this year to have Retired Colonel Brendan Kearney, USMC, as the guest of honor. Col Kearney is a San Francisco native who attended St. Ignatius College and USF, graduating in 1975 with a BA in government. Following that year he was commissioned in the USMC and his illustrious career took him to many assignments including Quantico, VA, Camp Pendleton, CA, Okinawa, Japan and finally to Stuttgart, Germany. For this last assignment from 2003 to 2006, he served as Chief of Staff, US Marine Corps Forces, Europe. Colonel Kearney completed 31 years of service and now resides with his wife, Katie, in Santa Rosa. He periodically appears as an international/military affairs analyst with the SF CBS affiliate, KPIX. He is a VP for Civil-Military Programs for a high-tech firm based in New England and maintains a private consulting practice in leadership and strategic challenge. He also serves on the Board of Directors with three non-profit, California-based organizations.
