Mayors and law enforcement leaders in Sonoma County recently came together and made a commitment to review law enforcement “use of force” policies and identify any necessary changes. The City of Sonoma contracts for law enforcement services with Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, and the operational policies of the Sheriff’s Department are followed by deputies assigned to the City of Sonoma Police Department.
In recent weeks, an ad-hoc committee of the Sonoma City Council, the Police Chief and the City Manager met and reviewed the Police Department’s Use of Force policies. A detailed presentation, including statistics for the City of Sonoma on use of force, was made by Chief Orlando Rodriguez at the October 5 City Council meeting. If you missed this informative presentation, you can view the video of the City Council meeting (the agenda item begins at 1:15:15) as well as the slideshow (please note that the slideshow includes some corrections to the percentage calculations in the video presentation. No changes were made to the underlying data).
