The City of Sonoma has posted a Notice of Preparation (NOP) for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) regarding the proposed Montaldo Apartments Project. This announcement marks the beginning of the process to identify and study potential environmental effects of the project. The NOP details the project located at 19320 Sonoma Highway and invites community input.
The proposed project is a residential development featuring 50 three-story apartment units. 25 percent of the units will be reserved for low-income households. The project involves combining two existing parcels into a 2.15-acre lot and removing an existing single-family residential structure.
The preparation of an EIR is a requirement under California environmental law and the City Municipal Code. Specifically, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) mandates that the City examine and disclose any potentially significant impacts of a project before issuing any discretionary permits. Similarly, the City Municipal Code requires that an environmental analysis be conducted per CEQA guidelines.
