The City of Sonoma has extended the application period for two new City Commissions – Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission and Climate Action Commission.

New Deadline: Friday, August 26th, 2022

Recognizing the vast knowledge and talent of our community, the City asks individuals to serve on a variety of commissions and committees. These commissions and committees are charged with focusing on key issues within Sonoma and then providing feedback, recommendations, and support to the Council on those issues.

At this time, the City is seeking applications for the newly formed Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission (PROS) and Climate Action Commission (CAC).

PARKS, RECREATION, & OPEN SPACE COMMISSION – The purpose of the PROS Commission is to advise the City Council on matters related to the preservation and enhancement of the parks, recreational facilities, and open space under the jurisdiction of the city.

The commission is composed of seven members – five voting members, two non-voting members.  Four of the voting members must be qualified electors of the City and one may be a qualified elector of the Sonoma Valley. The non-voting members include a certified arborist and a youth member (14-18 years of age) and may be residents of the City or Sonoma Valley, as defined by council policy.

CLIMATE ACTION COMMISSION The purpose of the CAC is to advise the City Council on issues related to reducing greenhouse gasses from the city’s municipal, residential, commercial, and industrial sectors and on adapting to climate change within the city’s jurisdiction.

The commission is composed of six members – five voting members and one non-voting youth member.  Four of the voting members must be qualified electors of the City and one may be a qualified elector of the Sonoma Valley. The non-voting youth member (14-18 years of age) may be residents of the City or Sonoma Valley, as defined by council policy.

Terms for both Commissions will be determined based on the Council Commission & Committee Appointment Policy.
