The City of Sonoma is pleased to report significant progress on the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. To date, 3,554 out of 4,491 water meters have been successfully upgraded to new ultrasonic meters, bringing the project to 79% completion. These upgrades represent a critical step in modernizing our water system, allowing customers to track their water usage in near real-time, improve water conservation, and enhance overall customer service.
As with any large-scale infrastructure project, we recognize that inconveniences and unanticipated challenges can arise. While our teams work diligently to minimize disruptions, customers may experience temporary service interruptions or other impacts related to the replacement process. A typical water meter replacement will cause a water service interruption of up to 15 minutes. If you need a scheduled window of time for your water meter replacement, please contact the Public Works Department at 707-938-3332 or email publicworks@sonomacity.org. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue working to provide long-term benefits to the community.
A small number of customers were identified as having degraded plumbing equipment on the customer’s side of the property, and those individuals received a letter advising them to make necessary repairs before the meter replacement. These repairs were recommended to prevent water disruptions or damage during installation. If you are unsure whether you were affected or have any concerns about your plumbing, please contact our Public Works Department for assistance.
Additionally, if you are experiencing any issues related to the recent meter exchange, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help resolve any concerns and ensure a smooth transition to the new system. Please call (707) 938-3332 or email publicworks@sonomacity.org for assistance.
Benefits of AMI Technology
The new AMI system provides several key benefits:
- Real-time monitoring: Soon, customers will be able to view their water usage in near real-time, helping detect leaks and identify ways to conserve water.
- Enhanced customer service: AMI’s detailed usage data will allow for more informed decisions and improved service from the City.
- Improved water management: The City will be better equipped to identify and address system issues, reducing water waste and increasing efficiency.
Thank you for your continued support as we work towards completing the project by late Fall 2024. The new customer portal will be activated by the end of the year, offering greater insight and control over your water usage.
